Electronic Invoicing for SMEs in Morocco: Preparing for 2026
Timeline, obligations, and tools for Moroccan SMEs facing electronic invoicing in 2026. Prepare your business with Inyad.

What Is Electronic Invoicing for SMEs in Morocco in 2026?
Electronic invoicing for SMEs in Morocco refers to the obligation for small and medium-sized businesses to generate, transmit, and archive their invoices in a structured format validated by the DGI. For Moroccan SMEs, the main deadline falls in 2026, with an extension planned for micro-businesses in 2027-2028.
An SME issuing more than 50 invoices a month is directly affected by this obligation. Invoice digitization must cover the entire chain: issuance, transmission to the customer, transmission to the DGI, and legal archiving for 10 years.
What Specific Obligations Apply to Moroccan SMEs?
SMEs must issue invoices including the company’s common identifier (ICE), trade register number, applicable VAT rate, and tax ID. Transmission happens via a secure channel to DGI servers, with automated acknowledgment of receipt.
Accounting traceability is essential: every invoice carries a chronological, unmodifiable number. In the event of a tax audit, the business must be able to produce any invoice from the past 10 years instantly. Modern SME invoicing software automates these requirements.
How to Choose Software Suited to SMEs?
Three criteria dominate the decision. First, multi-user access: your accountant, your salesperson, and your manager should access invoices with different permission levels. Next, multi-location management if the SME has several points of sale. Finally, accounting export to Sage, Cegid, or Ciel used by Moroccan accounting firms.
Multi-user: separate roles for owner, accountant, and sales staff.
Multi-location: sales aggregation by store.
Accounting export: compatibility with Sage, Cegid, Ciel.
What Timeline and Penalties Apply?
The DGI has announced a gradual rollout: large taxpayers first, then SMEs in 2026, then micro-businesses in 2027-2028. The planned financial penalties for non-compliance range from 1,000 to 50,000 DH per untransmitted invoice depending on company size.
An SME that plans ahead in 2025 has 12 to 18 months to migrate its processes, train its teams, and clean up its data. Delays in compliance are the leading cause of reassessments during tax audits.
