Is an Electronic Signature Mandatory for Invoices in Morocco?
Electronic signature for invoices in Morocco is not systematically mandatory under the DGI 2026 rollout, but it is becoming a best practice to guarantee authenticity and non-repudiation. For high-stakes B2B invoices, a qualified signature provides legal evidentiary value enforceable in the event of a dispute.
Law 53-05 on the electronic exchange of legal data governs this area in Morocco. It distinguishes between simple signature, advanced signature, and qualified signature, each with a different legal level.
What Are the Three Recognized Signature Levels?
The first level is the simple electronic signature, which consists of adding an identifier or a password. It’s sufficient for most micro-business/SME invoices. The second level, the advanced signature, uses a personal digital certificate. The third level, qualified, relies on a secure device provided by a provider accredited by the ANRT.

How Do You Get a Digital Certificate in Morocco?

Personal certificate: for a manager or sales representative.
Company certificate: linked to the company’s ICE.
Timestamp certificate: dated by an independent authority.

A digitally signed invoice cannot be disputed by the recipient: the issuer’s identity, the integrity of the content, and the date are all proven. Payment terms shorten by an average of 15% since the client no longer has grounds to request a duplicate or dispute the invoice.
Electronic legal proof is also decisive in the event of non-payment: before a Moroccan commercial court, a signed invoice carries far more weight than a simple unsecured PDF printout.
